Chingford Cross Country League - Alexandra Palace - 19/12/2009 - 5 Miles
It had been snowing over the previous couple of days and was very cold. Still snow on the ground and the ground a bit hard.
Had been warned that this race was tough because of the hill. Therefore, when the gun went off took it easy. Tucked in behind a fellow club runner who I knew was of a similar pace from our training runs.
First part of the course was dead flat. Rounded the corner and there was a hill, I thought this is not too bad I don't know what all the fuss is about. The around another corner and there is was. Basically a 60 degree slow from the bottom of Ally Pally up to the access road. My pace runner started walk and so did most of the other people, so I walked it. Get to the top and run along a bit before the downhill which was 2 halves of the up hill, then around to the start to do the same thing 2 more times.
Last lap up the hill was 3 of us club runners together, down the hill was discussion about who should take the lead. Bugger it I will take it so off I shot down the hill in just about a controlled fashion. Overtook a few people and made off after another but did not catch him, but as he crossed the line he stopped dead causing a pile up.
